Content

 ` Professional' readers like doctors and lawyers usually had an extensive library of their own. The first picture shows a doctor with a herbal, in which e.g. the medicinal operation of plants is described. The second picture shows a lawyer. To the professional literature of lawyers belonged treatises on Roman law, codes of law such as the Corpus juris, and local decrees.
