Content

 The Jesse printing house on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam, with hand compositors, in operation. On the right and at the back in the centre there are two children working. It is known that children also worked long hours in the typographical industry and were not paid much. In the archive of Jesse, preserved in the University Library in Amsterdam, there are still booklets in which their wages were noted.
