Content

The well-known Amsterdam publishers and booksellers Jacob Yntema and Jacob Tieboel are throwing a "Message to the readers of the joyful Amsterdam, by Jan Wagenaar" from the window. This pamphlet was aimed at town carpenter, Jan Smit, who had fitted out the royal box in the theatre after a drawing by someone else, the artist Andries van der Groen. The booksellers were to be found in their premises in the Kalverstraat, which were, until well into the 19th century, to remain in the possession of publishers and booksellers and became known as "Bibliopolum".
