Content

Emblem books enjoyed great popularity in the Netherlands from the end of the sixteenth century and many painters, engravers and poets have excelled in this genre. In the second quarter of the eighteenth century, when young people formed a separate target group for publishers, emblem books also appeared for children. A moralistic verse with an appealing picture was always extremely suitable for dear young people.
