Content

From the beginning of the seventeenth up to the end of the 19th century, a publication appeared every year without fail of "Den grooten oprechten onvervalsten Italiaenschen waer-segger". Initially the alamanac and prognostication (prediction for that year) were combined in a cheap, pamphlet-like quarto edition. Later the much smaller 16mo format was introduced for almanacs and the almanac and prognostications were separated. The Gothic type continued to be used even when it had already been replaced for some time in other editions by a roman type. It can be clearly seen in this edition how the fairly randomly chosen woodcut illustrations became more and more worn.
