Content

 The multilingual books that were published in the Republic were mainly dictionaries and bibles. Various editions of the Bible were commissioned by the VOC in Malaysian, 'for the dissemination of God's holy word among the unenlightened folk in the East Indies'. The ship on the title vignette carries the VOC monogram in the flag.
