 Week of the book gifts from, top row: 1930 (the first to appear), 1939: "Drie novellen" by Antoon Coolen and others, 1941: novels and poetry by 27 authors, and 1947: "De ontmoeting" by Anton Coolen. Second row: "Oeroeg", the book for 1948 which made Hella Haase famous, 1949: "Twee negerpopjes" by Clare Lennart, 1950: "De zaak Beukenoot" by Marianne Philips, 1951: "De porseleinen tafel", by Olaf J. de Landell. Bottom row: 1952: "Insecten in plastic" by Manuel van Loggem, 1953: "Tien verhalen", by Anthonie Donker and others, 1954: "Goed geboekt" by Jacques den Haan and others, and 1961: "De onbekende uren" of Agaath van Ree. In the early years of Week of the book gifts it often occurred that a number of novels or poems were bundled because the selection committee, which consisted of members of various religious and political persuasions, could not agree on the material to be offered.
