Content

 Cross-section of a 19th-century room in which hollanders are placed to grind rags into pulp for paper making. The apparatus saw various changes since its invention in the 17th century. Until well into the 20th century the principle was to remain the same: a rectangular tub with a middle partition in which the pulp can circulate and with a system of knives finely cutting the rags.
