Content

Popular abecedarium with Quintus reading a book on a bench, of which the first edition appeared in 1790. These sorts of little picture books were not used at school, where a rigid and didactically justified programme had to be followed. These abecedaria with their friendly, hand -coloured pictures per letter and simple rhymes of two or more lines, served mostly to amuse the children and to teach them the alphabet in a playful manner.
