Content

 In this picture a schoolmistress teaches a young girl to read. More pictures of schoolmasters than of schoolmistresses are known. Yet teaching was considered a typical occupation for women, together with the other occupations mentioned in this booklet such as net-maker, greengrocer, fishwife, cook, charwoman, nurse and match girl.
