Content

The printing house of Laurens Jansz. Coster in 1440, as it was assumed to look in the 17th century. The printing press is not shown correctly: the engraver did not know how to depict the bails and the connections of parts as well as the mechanism are not very clear. Yet the print is based on a drawing by Pieter Jansz Saenredam, who depicts a printing press of the 17th century much more accurately.
