Content

 Bookshops were traditionally also meeting places for scholars and men of letters. Montfleury's play features the female bookseller, Alis, who is talking in the shop to a marquess about the Molière's work. Although it is a French play, Caspar Luiken has depicted the interior of a typical Dutch bookshop.
