Content

 The Great Hall in the Binnenhof (the present Hall of Knights) in The Hague, had developed since the 17th century to become the major centre of the book trade in this city. Books could be sold there without being subject to the inspection of the Hague magistrates. This situation lasted until the beginning of the 19th century. The bookstalls are clearly visible against the side walls.
