Content

Among the furniture of the Bibliotheca Thysiana in Leiden is a rare wooden revolving bookcase from the first half of the 17th century, which was probably Thysius's own. It has four shelves with room for a few opened books on each of them. By an ingenious construction of wooden cogwheels in the side panels the four rotating shelves always remain in the same horizontal position.
