Content

Jean Paptist de Passe had learned the craft of type founding in Brussels and Paris. He settled as a type founder in Amsterdam in 1841 and went into partnership with a certain Menne, probably someone with the first name of Hendrik. This is a page from their first type specimen. De Passe and Menne were, with their modern types, a formidable competitor for Joh. Enschedé en Zonen, who took over the firm in 1847 after the death of De Passe in 1844.
