Content

 In 1768, the type founder Joannes Enschedé had these slightly larger than life sculptures of Laurens Jansz Coster and Hadrianus Junius made by the Antwerp sculptor A.F.Schobbens. They stood as each others counterparts in the inner court of his firm in Haarlem. Hadrianus Junius (1511-1575) was the Haarlem man of letters and scholar who for the first time, mentioned Coster as the inventor of the art of printing in his book `Batavia' (Leiden 1588).
