Content

 The upper half of this print shows the workshop of a plate cutter or engraver in copper. The figures are processing copper plates: priming (fig. A), scorching or blacking (B), transferring the drawing on to the plate itself (C), rinsing of the plate processed with chemicals (D and E), removing of possible pits on an anvil (F) and engraving the thus prepared plate (G). Below are the tools: engraving, burnishing and scraping irons in all kinds of sizes and a whetstone (fig. 6).
