Content

On the title page of this literary compendium, the printer's device of Henri du Sauzet is printed: a printing press with the motto `Vitam mortuis reddo' (I return life to the dead). The frontispiece opposite with a classical philosopher in a library symbolises the inexhaustible source of classical knowledge. Henri du Sauzet was probably originally from Amsterdam and became a member of the Hague booksellers' guild in 1715, but returned to Amsterdam again in 1718. In The Hague he only published books in French and one or two books in Latin.
