Content

 Print of Gerardus Joannes Vossius (1577-1649) after a painting by Joachim von Sandrart. Vossius had been professor of the history of eloquence at the Amsterdam Athenaeum Illustre since 1632. He owned an enormous collection of books, judged by the standards of his time. In his writings he called his library his `mouseion', a sanctuary devoted to the Muses.
