 In 1881 the Vereeniging ter bevordering van de belangen des boekhandels organised a large and successful 'Tentoonstelling van Hulpmiddelen voor den Boekhandel' (Exhibition of Resources for the Book Trade), in Amsterdam with an elaborate catalogue. Matthijs Jacobus Portielje, a well-known printer in Amsterdam, was awarded an 'honorary diploma' for his part in the catalogue.
