The publisher of this book, G.T.N. Suringar ( 1804-1884), started his own bookshop and publishing firm in Leeuwarden at the age of seventeen. His well-designed editions were also popular with authors in the Randstad which encouraged them to publish in Leeuwarden. One of Suringar's first and most important author was the Rotterdam poet and paint trader, Hendrik Tollens (1780-1856), who published with him with great regularity.
