Content

 Binding whereby the cardboard boards are covered with printed paper. This method of binding had been in use since the second half of the eighteenth century. A book such as this was first sewn, then pasted, then trimmed and then covered using cardboard. The sewing and pasting work can be clearly seen here because this copy is damaged.
