Simons Eikelenberg (1663-1738) at the age of 67, self-taught man, seller of brooms, amateur historian and voluminous writer at Alkmaar, engraved by Jacob Houbraken after a drawing by Cornelis Pronk of 1730. Eikelenberg was a lover of erotic literature, a field of collecting that as a rule was reserved for well-to-do, libertine collectors. Eikelenberg was somewhat of an exception because of his continuous financial worries.
