Issue 24 of "De Hollandsche Spectator", opening with an article on the study of the art of poetry in our country: 'I believe that there is no country in the world where so many, not poets, but rhymers are to be found as in our land'. The author discusses the difference between 'Digtkunde' (the art of poetry) and 'stoutmoediglyk Vaerzen maken' (the intrepid production of verses) by those who lack the 'ingeboorene geschiktheid als de Poezy vereischt' (innate suitability required by poetry) and the consequences of this.
