Content

Draughtsmen are busy with pastel crayons or heavy ink making an image straight on to a smoothed stone plate. It was important that the drawing was greasy and water-repellent and that the parts which were not printed retained water and would therefore repel the grease. During the drawing the artist could therefore not touch the stone by accident because any greasy spots might retain printer's ink at a later stage.
