Content

 The complete chapbook on Amadis de Gaule amounted to twenty-one bulky volumes. The Dutch editions of this romance and adventure novel were faithful translations from the French although the first volumes were originally translated from the Spanish. The authors and translators have remained unknown. The work was very popular with the general public but was also read by the upper classes.
